The spirit of the Mullingar Christmas Market has already kicked off in Mullingar shops. To coincide with the influx of visitors into Mullingar this weekend for the Mullingar Christmas Market 2016, some savvy Mullingar outlets are already offering attractive money off deals to draw in the crowds.

The printed map and guide for the Christmas Market event will be distributed freely to shoppers at the Market on Mount St. This leaflet will include a “smart deals voucher” printed on it’s back cover (as per below). The voucher will entitle the holder to attractive discounts publicised through the event website mullingarchristmasmarket.ml and across social media.

For example, already the wonderful Chimera Gallery on Oliver Plunkett St. (upstairs from Days Bazaar) is offering 10% off all items from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th Dec. And on the Lynn Road. Tri and Run in recognition of the Mullingar Christmas Market is offering 10% off all running and cycling gear (except bikes) and this incredible deal will be available right up to Christmas!! All you need to do is present your printed leaflet voucher to avail of your discount. And to keep the munchies at bay over the weekend, Eddie Rockets is offering 15% off all food. The Mullingar Christmas Market is a joint initiative between Mullingar Chamber of Commerce and Westmeath County Council. The event, which brings Christmas Magic to the town of Mullingar, is now in it’s third year and 2016 promises to be the biggest and best to date.

Last year’s event attracted over 40,000 visitors over a 3-day period with a huge range of attractions such as an Outdoor Cinema, Live Reindeer, Snow Machines, Santa’s Grotto and Christmas Carols to keep the whole family entertained. Mullingar is transformed into a “Christmas Magic”, it brings visitors back in time. The town is transformed into an atmospheric Christmas market with more than 85 festively decorated stalls. It is regarded as one of the Midland’s finest Christmas markets. The historical market town setting, the lovingly adorned stalls and the romantic Christmas lights create a special ambience that enchants more and more visitors every year.

Admin, Mullingar Christmas Market

The President of the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce Brigid Manley has invited the local Mullingar business community to become involved in the 2016 Mullingar Christmas Market.

Ms. Manley was addressing a meeting of Mullingar Retailers in the Greville Arms Hotel on Tuesday 4th October 2016. The Chamber of Commerce has already put a lot of behind the scenes work into this year’s market which is to begin on Thursday 8th December this year through to Sunday 11th December. Mr. Denis Hogan, Manager of the Harbour Place Shopping Centre also addressed the meeting outlining some ambitious plans for this year’s event.

Many of the speakers from the floor were very encouraging of the event. Some logistical concerns were raised from last year’s event which were acknowledged by the panel. In reply the Chamber undertook to address these issues as improvements which will be implemented for Market 2016.

Christmas Market 2016 Sponsorship

Suggestions also came from the floor that there may be local businesses who would be “only too delighted” to provide some of the necessary services to the event as local suppliers in the form of sponsorship of the event, in return for the positive publicity which this would generate for their companies. Tom Griffith of Digital Assist outlined that this assistance would be highlighted through the new digital channels available through mullingarchristmasmarket.ml and social media.

Ms. Manley was extremely interested in sponsorship proposals as this could help to reduce the overall cost of providing the event for the people of Mullingar. “This is an excellent suggestion by the Retail community to get behind the event. This is Mullingar’s market. Why not engage with willing local providers who see the real and genuine benefit of growing this event for future years as a major attraction for visitors to our Midlands town.”

Any visitors will certainly be spending money in the town, whether doing their Christmas shopping, whether in their accommodation or food and drink. We would certainly welcome any and all offers of sponsorship or involvement from local businesses and service providers and indeed their suppliers as appropriate.”

“Santa and Missus Claus looking forward to meeting the well-behaved children of Mullingar”

The President of Mullingar Chamber of Commerce Brigid Manley has said this week that Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus can’t wait to visit Mullingar from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th December.

Ms. Manley, was speaking prior to the launch of the new website for the 2016 Market which went live this week. Planning for the event has already been underway for some time and Ms. Manley has announced there will be an extra day added to the programme of events for 2016, beginning as it does on Thursday 8th December.

Having first begun in 2014, the Mullingar Christmas Market has grown to be a fun-filled attraction for shoppers, show-casing Mullingar as a unique traditional Market-style town. “It’s a time when the whole town all comes together on Mount St. in a great atmosphere and as a collaboration with one vision for the town at Christmas time”. “Our new website highlights the fun and colour of the Christmas Market such as our authentic market stalls and this year the opening hours have been extended to open up to the evening economy as well” said Ms. Manley.

Looking to the longer term for the Mullingar Christmas Market, Ms. Manley does not rule out that the event could be extended in future years to a full festival type of format, possibly even including an ice rink if it were feasible. Ms. Manley highlights the personal service of Mullingar traders and the vibrancy of the town with easily accessible parking as some of the unique selling points to visitors and as the reason why the event has become so successful in such a short number of years.
